Something Old, Something New- How Long-Established Traditions are Changing in Modern Day Wedding Planning

The rules of weddings are changing.  We are noticing a huge shift in the average age of couples we are working with.  They are typically coming to us in early-mid 30's and have each already established their own careers, and often have lived together for several years before deciding to get married.  This has created a huge shift in the "traditional" wedding customs, as couples are breaking out of what used to be their parents generation mold and making the engagement and wedding day very much their own.

It typically starts when the couple is thinking about getting engaged.  This has become a very open conversation about what the bride wants her ring to look like.  No longer are the days of the groom picking it out and surprising her with it- it has become an investment in both of them and their style as a couple.

Throughout the planning process couples are really finding creative ways to bring in their story and lives- often times through food, music, and even bringing in their pets to their wedding day.

Outside of wedding planning, many couples are opting to no longer create a traditional gift registry, and instead, opting for guests to make a donation to their favorite charity or donate to their honeymoon.

The list goes on and on from there.  Check out the graphic below and the engagement rings from our friends at Blue Nile for many other ways couples are changing the rules.
