A Poem from a Wedding Planner during COVID-19

During an evening sitting in my hot tub listening to the owls whoo and watching the stars twinkle, I began to cry. I don’t know what brought it on, perhaps it was just the culmination of the stressful week coming to a head and I was finally able to sit with my thoughts and listen to my heart.

These are the words I wrote down in my phone that night. I wanted to share my heart with you. This pandemic has been utterly exhausting for not only our couples, but also the vendors behind the couples. I wanted to share with you what it’s been like from the vendors perspective, and as your guide through all this, I feel like it’s our responsibility and duty to hold it all together. Sometimes we can not. Sometimes we just need to let it out. So here you go, from my heart to yours. We are all in this together.

I Wish You Could See…

I wish you could see how many sleepless nights your wedding vendors have had.

I wish you could see the amount of hours we have spent trying to apply for small business loans we know we will never get approved for.

I wish you could see the arguments with our spouses over what to do next.

I wish you could see the amazing kindness of our couples that are willing to work with us and try and make the best possible scenario for everyone.

I wish you could see the nasty emails of couples so stressed out that they’re taking it out on us demanding money back that that we’ve worked so hard for and is literally taking away money for our mortgage.

I wish you could see vendors who are scrambling to get a second job so they can work seven days a week in order to pay the mortgage.

I wish you could see how much we love our jobs and this is killing us.

I wish you could see how alone we are.

I wish you could see the frustration we have of every other industry getting so much attention and us getting none.

I wish you could see that some businesses are not going to survive this.

I wish you could see how our heart breaks for our couples not being able to have the wedding day they’ve dreamed of.

I wish you could see the leads that have gone cold, the inquiries that have stopped coming in, and how many Zoom calls we’ve been on learning to ‘pivot’ our offerings.

I wish you could see the conversations of vendors so exhausted and tired of fighting that they are losing their passion for this industry they once held so dear.

I wish you could see how much we care for you and how much we do this because we truly love being a part of your celebrations.

Those are the things I wish you could see. Please see us. We love you and need you.
